Reaching Tagaytay makes one hungry. Scaling the crest of the welcome rotunda throbs with gurgling inside the stomach while searching the bevy of roadside signs heralding eatery specials. This is cattle country being right next to the grazing lands of Batangas province where Australian longhorns are ranged to be fattened for the urban market direct from the livestock long hulls that dock at the Batangas City International Port. Batangas beef may be a trifle sinewy than Angus or USDA but the local grass flavors it with a taste that jumps your tongue with a distinct settling. More like the scent of a native woman, salt from the earth so subtle to be coy while shyly and slyly hinting whiffs of sugary nectar from midnight blossoms.

Away with the poetry and serve the beefsteak, hungry mouths snarl with bared incisors. Fork and knife akimbo over rattling plates, all the driving with cramping gets a payback with greasy, aromatic, glistening, marbled, juicy, moist, heaping, man sized, and in your face chunk of T-bone topped by curlers of onions pan fired in quick searing flames that vaporize the sparse sprinkling of soy sauce. You get so wild to grab with your hands and tear with your teeth. Growling and swigging beer from the bottle, you sit the sultry waitress on your lap to feel the heat from your bursting insides. Then you remember you can’t get it up anymore. But now’s not the time to fish for the ready Viagra in your pocket that you hide from the Missus who scowls over your scandalous antics.

For a more civilized experience, there is fine dining at Antonio’s which culinary creations entail ingenious use of the widest selection of fresh vegetables that grow in luxuriant bounty in and around its domain. Direct from the source in the skimpiest time rings true as the salads barely shed rigor mortis of the flora before they are tossed with epicurean flavorings topped by the virginal full bodied olive oil, balsamic vinegar, magical herbs, and top secret tightly guarded elixirs. I wouldn’t know really because I’ve never been there. I just imagined that’s how it would be judging from the lavish accolades paid it by very objective and impartial restaurant guides, reviewers, and critics, who get freebies.

Taal Vista Lodge is historically the place to go where even your grandmothers frolicked as nymphets spoiling to charm the boys. The view deck is so beguiling and spacious so much so you feel like an airplane rolling to the abyss at the end to take off with rolls and spins to climb above G forces with the spitfire of Tom Cruise in Top Gun, then dive bomb towards the volcano down below in a shuddering flyby. “Rat tat tat tat tat,” I spewed imaginary machine gun bullets at my cousin who dodged the fusillade and rolled on the carpet of manicured Bermuda grass. Some pubescent Assumption Convent High School girls I gave a dose of my James Dean impersonation back then in the lobby, giggled to catch me en flagrante still embroiled like a boy. Those were the days in Tagaytay City, to say it again.

Modern age Tagaytay City is more vibrant and equipped to take on a new role as the one hour refuge or sojourn from the vicissitudes of the rat race in Manila. It’s a well placed pit stop and jump off point to the resplendent beaches in the coastal lowlands surrounding its high vantage point. Down south, there’s the magnificent Batangas coast while behind it and further westward, the Cavite bay flows dramatically to meet head on and merge with the shimmering stretch of the basin of Southeast Asia, the South China Sea. Resort development is at its peak with the Tagaytay cliffs as the focal point, the spoke in the wheel, and crown jewel. The recluse for rest with lazy sleep is best typified by the cuddlesome greenery of Tagaytay’s primeval woods and landscapes after a heat seeking uninhibited immersion in briny ocean waters lapping fine grain sand beaches.

Incognito, discreet, secret hideaway, to be had within the eight hour work day schedule not far from the business center affording the furtive chance to be back at the office at the close of the day is every thrill seeker’s wet dream come true. Just make sure the car windows are heavily tinted and file away that sales call trip ticket before you pick up the tryst partner quickly by the 7-11 and you are roaring off to seventh heaven in Tagaytay City. She’s turned on by the wispy fascinating scenery and clings to you with a tenderness waiting to escalate to a clawing and scratching frenzy especially if you’ve not solved that infestation of mites in your pubic hair. But seriously, forget those trivial irritants and love with nobility in Tagaytay City which is as close as geography could come to ideals of the heart true to such a mythical mystical nirvana.

Abba Krishna Vested Tagaytay City As An Oasis Of Love Both Worldly And Mystical

Flower farms, fruit orchards, and vegetable beds thrive in the dewy climate to proliferate by the fattening breath of mildly chilled temperatures. The elevation from the stifling humidity in the tropical latitude of the capital brings a year round cooling with varying intensity much like air conditioning with settings of low and high cool. The summer season in the tropics is buffered by a dome of refreshing coolness all over the enclave on a ridge. In the Christmas season months when the frigid Siberian wind blows southward from China, fogs and shivery temps make like the Boston suburbs but with hilly terrain and thankfully, sub-tropical thermal redemption.

Once you hit the town rotunda there’s no way to go but left or right. The main highway follows the curve of the ridge coiling in anaconda fashion to laze like piped lining marking the promontory’s edge teetering on the brink above Taal Lake. The beauty whirl astounds you everywhere you turn and sailing above ground with your thoughts and caprices takes you to fantasyland. You begin to love and the inspiration trips you to shower affection all around. You get itchy to hug and kiss whomever or whichever you can reach out to. If you are driving alone you grab the wheel in a tight embrace. Caution is the better part of perversion so make sure to apply the brakes and not to wrap your ride around a tree

Tagaytay City is always ripe for an interlude. It could be spiritual or more usually romantic or both. There are more retreat houses and convents in Tagaytay than can be found anywhere in the only Catholic bastion in Asia. Spiritual hiatus relies on inspiration in tandem with convenience and nothing comes closer both in proximity to the nerve center of the Republic which allows ready accessibility and in isolation amidst sylvan natural cloisters to thread inward soul searching than in the fabled Tagaytay City environs of legendary serenity.

The upside of piety is of course love in the ramparts where more fleshy accessories and vital zones figure in the fore, mid, and aft of many numbered and flexible plays. The Eros and the Pious are not necessarily antagonists but in fact collaborate like a tag team where one has to reign supreme in the arena of choice but not encroach and violate the perimeter of the other. Man’s drive for satiation of pleasure and accumulation of wealth are fuels that combust deep in his psyche and anatomy to propel him to the heights of achievement and excellence. Once on top he learns to love in a way that is altruistic towards his brothers as the beginning of the steps to godliness in union with the grand design of the Father Creator, the Abba Krishna.

LOVELY ABELLA OF ASF DANCERS

The fruit stands by the roadside get festive with ubiquitous little yellow bananas hanging like long lanterns. Japanese tourists in buses descend to savor a taste and are tickled pink to find their favorite health booster in toy size. They labeled them as monkey bananas and crack up with humor to poke indirect fun at the expense of the locals with the patented Japanese deadpan. “Do you like monkey bananas?” You feel slighted by the insinuation but then recover fast to counter by quoting ten dollars for the whole bunch which never fails to send them reeling back like their pockets got picked woefully.

The pineapples and papayas contribute to the sea of yellow delicacies. All the sporting contests are forgiven with a joy in the bright cheery atmosphere of nature’s fresh bounty from the earth. Blessings are the best beginning of bonding and in eras and areas of plenty we find ourselves overriding fractious tendencies and revel at the abundance to be rightfully shared as a kinship and a unity. Man is driven but once he achieves the pinnacle, he assumes a magnanimity and compassion that envelop with a retrospect to pull forward those who were left strewn by the wayside.

LESLEY LEVERIZA

The air is cool and fresh and being high up on a ridge dropping off to a wide expanse of sky overlooking the majesty of a volcano in the midst of a serene lake, the windy gusts blow away all the pollution far to the blue yonder like a giant ventilator. You can’t help feel the climb to higher elevation as you drive nearer to Tagaytay City. Shifting from overdrive to mesh the engine to throttle with the added pull of gravity comes often to manual gears as the final approach inclines upwards.

Crisp and gentle are the scents and green country scenes that stir the traveler’s countenance. Nature is such an invigorating fresher upper. Dispirited souls and weary bodies get injected with renewed bounce and light heartedness as if fidgety balloons dribbling manically to flee and soar to the heavens. It helps that the smooth highway is evenly graded to make the going freewheeling as if riding on wings of momentum. Snatches of rural scenery flit by in patchwork colors like raggedy quilts flying in the breeze.

At the start of the journey, Coastal Highway snaking by the bay is a quick fix from the cacophony of commerce and bubbling throng that hold hostage the spiritual Mecca of Catholic Baclaran. Merging to the trail of old Aguinaldo Highway seems a letdown as the same broiling pit greets you with bumper to vendor crazy amalgams of oversized buses and sneaky jeeps fighting off the encroachment of persistent tricycles and pedestrians into every available corner. The traffic enforcer wavers like a hysterical scarecrow drained of every bit of deference.

Traffic restores moods to lightness as it speeds up via Imus town. The uninterrupted hum of the motor soothes sordid feelings like orchestra music waxing freely with swaying of the baton. Anxiety alerts are toned down as decibels with anticipation of good times take over in the form of festering thirst and grumbling palates. It’s too early for anything and too premature for ejaculation so how come the pesky hardness tingles in the groin all of the sudden? You reach over the console and gently squeeze the elbow of your partner with shy affection. He blows smoke your way and grins with yellowed teeth and stubble on chin perplexity.
