Classic comics was an indelible trademark in my childhood. Like internet nowadays, it was my window to catch an inkling of the outside world. Potato couching for a fat lazy kid like I was meant a couple of hours lying down on the sofa and reading the only copy I ever owned and treasured. Worn, faded, and frayed at the edges from too many reruns in my hands, Red Badge of Courage still glowed with drama as the first day I got it as a gift from my Dad.

To back up my immersion with the blues and the grays, the next gift giving doled out miniature toy soldiers complete with cannons worked on by artillery crews under the proud fluttering of Confederate and Yankee flags. Both sides looked heroic and none were the villain. Two good guys having a go at each other like the battlefield was a mere testing ground. Too bad when reality reared up front to bare the dead and the wounded in the aftermath of a charge. Brothers torn asunder and brutalized beyond repair, the tears welling up not so much to lament tragedy and carnage, but the absurdity of dehumanizing one's own kind for the principle of freeing an alien black people from beyond the Cape of Good Hope.

My younger brother got a silver Colt .45 for Christmas. The elder one opted for a snub nosed .38 revolver which slid inside an armpit holster under the jacket best typified by 1960's TV detective Peter Gunn. They justified to some extent the F-100 Sabre jets that patrolled the skies over Clark Air Base two hours north of Manila and the bristling armament of the U.S. Seventh naval fleet moored off Subic naval base not too far beyond to the magnificent Bataan coastline.

Four score and seven years ago, our forefathers brought forth into this continent, a new nation. There was cataclysm that had to be let loose on the face of the earth and in the lives of men so the Abba Krishna's teaching of love could sneak through and embed as an afterthought in a replay of the Passover through Egypt. War among brothers as an instrument to foment love and equality seemed too radical, turbulent, and destructive to be anything God-like from the Almighty threshold of the God the Father in heaven, the Abba Krishna. I lived and died with the words of Abe Lincoln over the smoke filled stillness of the grass and the slopes that saw the bloodletting of brother against brother in Pennsylvania. The one time I went up on stage armed with the Gettysburg address as my declamation piece in grade school under the close prodding of my Dad didn't fare so well. But I felt every single word in my heart and tried my best to convey the lessons of the Most Holy Almighty Father God, the Abba Krishna.

My Dad flew to D.C. To be with me that summer in Laurel Maryland. Just the two of us drove north past the inroads of Maryland to venture into wide open fields leading to historical Gettysburg. It was apropos that we were together as he played an incipient and integral role in rearing me up in the annals of American ascendancy as a world power. America loomed large in the shaping of the global order foremost of which were two significant cruxes, the dollar dominated economic system and the police role American military presence played to secure far flung corners in peace. And then there was Ike Eisenhower before you even touched the veritable artifacts surrounding the hallowed grounds where freedom was born in the throes of violent upheaval. Burn the house down to strengthen the foundations of nationhood. It was apt that Ike greeted you to usher the trip down history lane. Two Generals, Douglas MacArthur and Ike Eisenhower, two Caesars stood like Sphinx vanguards to herald American military domination to the length and breath of the blue planet. Everything traced back to the catharsis called Gettysburg.

Russia, America, the European Community, China, and the emerging economic giants Brazil and India, and the isolationist havens of Australia and New Zealand could all band together and share technology, resources, and scientific data in order to deflect the onrush of Armageddon. The unity that is forged could endure with permanence. Thanks to the Almighty God the Father in heaven, the Abba Krishna, for forcing the key to unite all prayers with love. Survival of all peoples and races is inevitably joined as a united front with exact same goals and consequences. No spin-offs and secessionist actions could possibly achieve better results than a concerted effort of one and all.

Death transforms to life, ugly metamorphoses to beauty, violence tapers down to peace, hurts and misgivings are salved with renewal though hope, desperation clings to a rising in faith. United we stand if we love to bind our future and aspirations together as a genus carved in the image of the Abba Krishna and destined to rule the far flung planets. We could all say we trace our roots to the blood compact of Gettysburg.
